The situation
Laying out a battery-storage site is fiddly, repetitive work, and it used to be redrawn by hand every time an input changed. Move a setback, change the equipment count, rotate the site to fit the parcel, and an engineer was back in the drawing for hours or days. Delivered between April and July 2026 with a formal handoff package, this project set out to give that time back.
The defect
The scarce resource on these projects was never drafting - it was engineering judgment, and it was being spent on redrawing. Because the layout was a hand-built drawing rather than something generated from the parameters, every what-if meant starting over. That made iteration slow and quietly discouraged exploring alternatives, since each option cost real hours. The design was locked to the effort of drawing it, not to the logic behind it.
What we engineered
- Built a tool that generates a full BESS site layout directly from its parameters, instead of drawing it by hand.
- Handled rotation so a layout can be fitted to the real orientation of a parcel.
- Drove configuration from editable general notes, matching how engineers already specify a site.
- Regenerated complete layouts in minutes when inputs change, turning a multi-day redraw into a quick pass.
- Delivered with a formal handoff package so the operator's own team owns and runs it independently.
The result
Changing a parameter no longer means restarting a drawing. Layouts regenerate in minutes, so engineers can explore options instead of rationing them, and the output stays consistent with the inputs that produced it. Delivered on a defined April-to-July 2026 schedule and handed off cleanly, it gave the team back the thing they were short on: engineering time to spend on decisions rather than drafting.
